Now Hiring IMPD Cadets!

The IMPD Cadet program was established in 2016 to complete the pipeline for youth engagement and recruitment for IMPD. IMPD has several youth-serving programs - including IMPD Junior Cadets and Indy Police Athletic and Activities League (Indy PAL) - that provide relationship-building and engagement for youth ages 9 to 18. Young adults must be 21 years of age to be hired as IMPD officers, so the IMPD Cadet program provides training, experience and support navigating the application process.

“We are excited to welcome another cohort of IMPD Cadets into this impactful program,” said Officer Desiree Biggers, the program’s new director. “I look forward to working with each Cadet and assisting them on their journey to become an IMPD officer.”

IMPD Cadets are part-time civilian employees placed in roles throughout the department, in which they learn the behind-the-scenes business function of IMPD. Cadets participate in community engagement events and details - supporting IMPD officers and learning real-world skills.

“The IMPD Cadet program provides young adults with the opportunity to gain valuable life experience and learn more about a career as an IMPD officer,” said IPSF Executive Director Dane Nutty. “Diverse and qualified recruitment is a top priority for IMPD and the IMPD Cadet program aligns with that strategic goal.”
